Bates Dairy is supplied by farms within a 20-mile radius of the dairy which is perfect for keeping food miles low and provides fresh milk for our rounds in Wigan and the surrounding areas.
This traditional dairy has been in the family for three generations since Edward and Elsie Bates started bottling milk into glass bottles in 1939. So, what they don't know about dairy isn't worth knowing. Bates provide fresh milk using traditional glass milk bottles, which they wash and reuse up to 50 times. If it ain't broke, don't fix it – that's our motto.
With investment in solar power as well as recently entering a climate change agreement with the Environment Agency, the dairy is fully committed to reducing carbon and improving sustainability.
